I have over twenty years' monitoring and evaluation experience together with considerable expertise in policy analysis and programme development. Although much of my work to date has been in Francophone Africa, I am increasingly working globally and enjoy applying best practice in a variety of cultural contexts.
Having been educated at Oxford and Harvard Universities, I spent eight years at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where I did research, teaching and student supervision. I organised the 'Short Course in Sexual and Reproductive Health Research' and brought in record numbers of students who gave it glowing evaluations!
In 2007 I moved to Mali (a country very dear to my heart) and set up my own consultancy business. This quickly became very successful and took me not just around Africa but also to The Caribbean and Asia. My client base expanded rapidly and currently includes, amongst others, UNICEF, USAID, Save the Children, The Population Council, The World Bank, Population Services International, Marie Stopes International, Family Health International, Care and Intrahealth. The vast majority of these organisations have requested that I work for them on more than one occasion - I hope that speaks for itself with regard to the quality of my work!
Due to increasing political instability, I sadly had to leave Mali and am now based in London but can work anywhere. I am not afraid of 'getting my hands dirty' and love fieldwork (the more remote the location, the better!). I am also at ease doing quantitative and qualitative analysis in addition to formative research for project implementation. I possess good writing skills for technical and popular audiences. I have experience in addressing the needs of hard-to-reach or highly vulnerable groups and am mindful of the importance of local participation and ownership. Whatever I do, I always try to think 'outside the box'!
