Nutrition
I have a Diploma in 'Food Resources related to Community Development' from London University. I have a particular interest in breastfeeding, complementary feeding and weaning, together with anthropometric outcomes.
- July 2012 - UNICEF and Government of Burundi: Situation Analysis of childhood malnutrition. The study looked at the causes and consequences of widespread chronic malnutrition using secondary analysis of DHS data and qualitative research in the regions of Gitega and Kirundo. In addition, a costing exercise was carried out of multi-sectorial interventions and associated projections of reductions in the prevalence of malnutrition. A policy brief was prepared which showed the economic impact on development in Burundi if malnutrition is not addressed.
- July 2007 - Care-Mali: Preparation of successful funding application to European Union for programme to integrate social capital and women's social networks into multi-sectorial interventions to improve children's nutritional status on the Dogon Plateau, Mopti, Mali.
- October 1999 - Macro International: Qualitative research on introducing complementary foods to infants in the Mopti region of Mali. The study found that although relatively high rates of exclusive breastfeeding were reported during the Demographic and Health Survey, in reality, mothers were giving all kinds of foods and liquids to their infants during the first six months of life. These included water, animal milk, traditional medicines and gruel which they did not consider 'food'. The findings therefore had important programmatic implications and highlighted the importance of taking into account local interpretations of public health messages.
